Accessing Private Bass Fishing Ponds Will Require Good Manners

Have you ever been frustrated with all the people and noise at your local fishing hot spot? The competition with other fishermen for the best spot or even the parking? It’s true! Ever thought about private ponds for bass fishing? But how would you go about getting permission to fish at the private ponds?

It’s easier than it sounds. Most landowners who have ponds on their properties are farmers. Sometimes they can be a bit distant especially when approached about fishing on their property. When you talk to these property owners be cordial and friendly. Express to them that you view mother nature with high regard. Try to give them about a week’s notice when you would like to fish. Even if they have worked out a time with you, it’s always safer to announce your arrival once you get there.

Always ask them if there is a certain area they would prefer you park in. Do not intrude on their private lives, if they are not going to be at that property, make arrangements for another time. If they are very negative and give you an out and out no, thank them for their time.

It’s better to stay in good graces with them, because you don’t know who they might know, and you don’t want any negative words being spread about your fishing attitude. Once you establish yourself as a responsible guest, the private pond owner may allow you to invite along other bass fishing friends. Show a genuine interest, ask if there are more places on the land that they might allow you to fish on. Many good sized farms have lots of secret fishing spots. They may even know of other property owners with ponds that would not mind if others fished their pond. Always leave the property the same way you found it.

Don’t leave any debris lying about the land or water. Offer the owners some fish, cleaned of course. Think for a moment, if it were your own property, how you would expect visitors to treat your land. Once you’ve established a friendship with the owner, it would be polite to send them thank-you notes and add them to your holiday list. Be thoughtful and suggest you are willing to help them out with a few tasks if they ever need a hand.

Once you find that secret honey hole, tie on one of your favourite bass fishing lures and do some fishing!
